Accidents are common during constructions

Accidents are common during constructions, especially when working on the heights. These accidents are usually due to unavoidable circumstances but others are due to workers not adhering to correct safety precautions while at work. Plumbing, window washing and installation, painting and electrical installation as well as construction companies are the most affected.

Injury due to a fall may not only be fatal to the person victim but also to the people below and on the ground. This is because tools, equipment or materials falling from a height may injure the people working below or pedestrians in the vicinity. Visit : The following are some important tips on the safety measures and precautions that should be observed when working in high heights to avoid any injury to you and to others.

You should always maintain a safe working environment when working at high heights to avoid any accidents. This is by ensuring that you are securely anchored to a stable platform e.g. by using a harness when working on a cherry picker. You should also keep all your tools and materials being used in a secure location to avoid them falling and hurting the people below.

You should also check and consider if the work involved can be done on the ground rather than at a high level. For example materials to be installed can be assembled and prepared at the ground and be fixed later. This will eliminate the instance of anything falling when assembling the materials aerially.

You can also try to reduce the risks involved in working at a height by employing certain safety measures such as the use of fall protection measures for example harnesses, industrial safety nets or other catch platforms. Passive fall prevention systems may also be used to protect the people below. These include the use of perimeter guard railing or roof safety meshes.

The use of ladders can be used either for small heights or for higher heights if the above listed options are not reasonably practicable. However when using ladders, all the factors of ladder safety should be observed and adhered to. For example the ladder should be firmly secured at the base to avoid slipping or sliding.

Different provisions should also be put in place to prevent objects being used from falling from the top and hurting those at the bottom. Hence any one working at the bottom should be wearing a hard hat to prevent any injuries to the head. The area can also be secured by surrounding it with barricades or safety tape.

Survival Movies – The Cream of the Crop

Survival Movies, Best to the Worst!

The popularity of survival movies has really grown over the past couple of years. I have rated these movies in three different categories. The categories are: realisticness, survival value and entertainment factor. Each of these is on a A – F Grading Scale with A being best and F being worst. These ratings are all based on my opinion so you may not feel the same.

Waterworld – Realisticness – D Survival Value – D Entertainment factor – C+
The Earth is now filled with water, but some people believe there is still dry land on the earth. This is one of the 123 movies many survival movies about the fight over resources. As in many movies, this is a fight between the protagonist (Kevin Costner) and the antagonist (Dennis Hopper) and his cronies (called the smokers). This movie is fun to watch but I don’t feel it was realistic or offered much in the way of survival value.

The Postman – Realisticness – B Survival Value – C Entertainment factor – B
I feel the reviews of this movie by critics don’t give it justice. In this film, the United States is a very different place with little order. Many people have gone back to a dark ages style of living with no electricity, very little law, and a tyrant thug (Will Patton) trying to gain power. The protagonist (Kevin Costner), a drifter, finds a way to make a difference in the world even though he is originally only worried about his own livelihood and well – being. This was a very long movie, but I really enjoyed it and liked its sense of hope. I thought this movie offered decently realistic insight on what could happen with a breakdown of society and numerous years of lawlessness. It had a few areas that I think gave it some survival value, but overall, it was just one of the entertaining survival movies.

The Road – Realisticness – A Survival Value – B Entertainment factor – C
While I didn’t feel this was one of the survival movies that lived up to my expectations, I feel it accurately portrayed the emotional rollercoaster that an end of the world situation would create. The characters in this movie were not able to trust anyone around them, and they lacked the resources necessary to carry on a normal life, which could be an accurate outcome in a real societal breakdown. I think this movie, while being boring in some spots, felt very realistic and showed the dreary outlook of the main character (Viggo Mortenson) in a post apocalyptic world with no hope. On the survival value front, I thought there were some topics to take away from the story line that would be useful in real life. I felt that this movie allowed me to realize that striving for happiness and wishing to live life to the fullest despite terrible circumstances is key to beating the end.

I am Legend – Realisticness – C Survival Value – B –
Entertainment factor – B This is another of the survival movies that I think showed great emotion. The main character (Will Smith) and his dog attempt to survive throughout this film despite the constant threat of zombies. I will say this movie has one of the saddest scenes in any movie I have ever seen, which makes the whole movie worth watching. This survival movie really shows you how important a companion is when you are lonely. Other than the importance of companionship, there were only a few survival lessons to be learned.

Book of Eli – Realisticness – C Survival Value – C
Entertainment factor – B I felt Book of Eli with Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis was worth the watch. This survival movie showed how important being aware of your surroundings is. Also in a disaster ridden world it shows how there will be people that will take power any way they see fit. The use of religion to control people is what the antagonist (Gary Oldman) uses to gain power. If you are a Christian or are religious this is definitely an important movie to watch because it shows how people can use religion and the Bible for good as well as evil to push their own motives. Even so, in the end, this movie didn’t show the Bible or Christianity in a bad light. I thought the lesson of being aware was the best survival value it gave.

Jeremiah Johnson – Realisticness – A
Survival Value – B Entertainment factor – B Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford) is one of the best survival movies. This movie is about a man who wants to live as a hermit living off the land, who wishes to be left alone to do his own thing. This is the oldest movie on my list and also one of the best. I believe it has great survival value and is quite realistic. In one scene, Jeremiah Johnson finds a man who has been dead for a while with a note on him saying, “I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do hereby leaveth my bear rifle to whatever finds it, Lord hope it be a white man. It is a good rifle, and killt the bear that killt me. Anyway, I am dead. Yours truly, Hatchet Jack.” How can you not love this movie with a scene like that? This movie is great at depicting how to live off the land and be self – sufficient.

Castaway – Realisticness – B Survival Value – C Entertainment factor – B
Castaway, starring Tom Hanks, is a family survival movie. There is some survival value to this movie like starting a fire or taking an abscessed tooth out with an ice skate. The main character is involved in a commercial UPS type plane crash that leaves him stranded on an island with no other survivors. It illustrates how ingenious people can be when they do not have the conventional tools for survival.

Into the Wild – Realisticness – A Survival Value – B Entertainment factor – B
Into the wild is the true survival story of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) who gives up his ordinary life to roam the US and live in Alaska. This is an ultimate adventure movie that shows how Christopher lived all by himself in the Alaskan wilderness with only what he could carry on his back. This film offered good survival value, and it taught me something very important: never eat wild plants unless you know exactly what they are and if they are safe to eat.

My Predilection for Movies

I won’t be bragging about the ideal list that is posted and rated by almost every website available for public viewing. Rather, I would like to share a list of 5 movies that I have actually watched and that have influenced me in some or the other way.

1) The Shawshank Redemption: This 1994 Frank Darabont movie made me feel like a nincompoop, as prior to watching the movie I used to believe in the nonexistence of movies based on a dynamic story-line and an intriguing plot. According to me, this movie defined the modern era of film-making. It has all the right ingredients in proper proportions ranging from solid acting performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman to proven directional acumen of Frank Darabont. movies123 Specifics cannot be explained through words, so you need to realize the aesthetics of creativity while watching the movie.

2) The Matrix: The era of modern science fiction, slick action sequences and charismatic slow motion cinematography was pioneered by the movie. The concept of dual reality and the existence of a world controlled by machines, which use human body heat and electrochemical energy as their own energy source and imprison human minds in the virtual world of “Matrix”, needs some serious amount of thinking while watching. In fact, the lead actor, Keanu Reeves himself once confirmed that he was not able to completely grasp the plot of the Wachowski Brothers. It’s basically a fight of the machines and humans in a virtual world, where the ultimate aim of the humans (the hackers) is to hack into “Matrix” and defeat the machines (powerful computer programs). In a world racing towards automation and digital devices, you will be forced to think of such a remote possibility (the ultimate dominance of machines over their creators, i.e. the humans) as depicted in the movie.

3) Inception: After watching “Memento” and “The Dark Knight”, little did I realize that director Christopher Nolan has still some juice left to baffle his fans in the form of “Inception”. The concept and story-line of the movie defies practical logic, but from a creative point of view the concept of “dream stealing” and “time travel” has been brilliantly portrayed in the movie. Acting performances and cinematography have been deftly delivered, as well. But then, this kind of movie is not just any layman’s cup of tea as you got to have that creative bend of mind and weird sense of logic to appreciate such movies. The key here is patience, which will help you join the required dots in between plot switches. If you agree with these conditions, enjoy the ride.

4) City of God: This Fernando Meirelles (Brazilian) movie skilfully depicts one of the harshest realities ever documented in a movie. The scene is of the slums of Rio-de-Janerio, where 2 young boys are shown treading on different walks of life. One goes on to become the most notorious young gangster of the region by brutally eliminating rival gangs, while the other, wanting to escape the harsh reality of violence and poverty, goes on to become a photographer. The movie also demonstrates a different form of cinematography, with very fast-paced and jerky hand-held video camera type scenes almost dominating the entire run-time of the movie. Some of the scenes are really unexpected and one should watch this with utter discretion. The amount of shock and awe that this movie breeds inside you will make you sit straight and urge you to hope for truce.

5) Fight Club: The plot of the movie is pretty unique and weird to some extent – a trademark that defines David Fincher. The concept of split personality is brilliantly portrayed from Fincher’s viewpoint and equally well handled on-screen by Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helen Bonham Carter. Do not spoil your experience with the spoiler, if you haven’t watched the movie. This is surely to leave a lasting mark on your grey cells. Many would find it familiar at some point in their personal or professional life that when things aren’t going the way you want it to, you tend to create your own utopia out of frustration.

Five Superhero Movies We Can’t Wait To See

Going to your local movie theater is a lot of fun simply because you’re getting a chance to indulge in some fantastic, on-screen adventure. For the last two decades, no other type of movie has brought the house down for fun and entertainment than that of superhero movies. What may have once been nothing more than fairly youth-targeted caped-crusading hooey has now become massive in terms of popularity, budget, and full-on entertainment. Superhero movies have taken characters that were once staples of the funny pages or comic books and made them major commonalities in the movie business, but is this such a good thing?

Granted, watching our favorites superheroes on the silver screen is pretty cool, but there are quite a number of these films popping up. One could argue that maybe there is a bit of capitalizing on the popularity of the genre, and that said capitalization may actually water down the quality of the movies being produced. 123movies free Superhero purists have also argued that too much creative license and artistic interpretation has taken place so as to make the superheroes portrayed on-screen aren’t related to the source materials of their origins. Still, it’s hard to argue with the number of tickets purchased for these movies and the high number of accolades that these movies have received.

Even more interesting than the debate regarding too many superhero movies, it is the type of gossip and hype machines that surround Hollywood that can make it hard to keep new movies development a secret. This is particularly important for superhero movies because if there is one thing they do well, it is that they leave a little bit of room for either a sequel or a chance for other characters in their respective ‘universe’ to pop-up. This means that even if you had a blast at the latest hero flick but left the theater thinking that a certain character would be cool either in their own spin-off, you might get wind of a development deal for this exact reason, and you can’t wait to see what emerges.

The truth is that we’re also big fans of these types of movies. Though superhuman, superheroes are really reflections of who we are and the type of struggles we deal with day in and out. It is this deep connection that makes it a real thrill to know that when a new superhero movie is coming out, we’re on pins and needles with excitement.

Here are five caped-crusader films we’re stoked about:

Black Panther – Power struggles, utopian settings, and a movie that should have been made a long time ago for both the character & the social commentary, this one will be big.

Justice League – Sometimes saving the world requires more than just one person in tights. Yes, it’s been out in theaters, but we’re making sure we watch a few of the flicks leading up to this one.

Avengers: Infinity War – Again, superheroes must come together to save mankind. This isn’t their first ride together, and for dedicated audiences, watching character development over the course of films is a pretty sweet thing.

The Changing Face of Movie Rentals

Renting movies on VHS or DVD is, by far, the most popular form of entertainment in America. More Americans regularly rent movies than go to professional baseball, football, and basketball games combined! What’s not to love? With television screens growing bigger by the year and movies going from the theatre to VHS and DVD faster than ever, it’s no wonder movie rentals are at an all-time high. It’s also a lot cheaper than watching in the theatre, especially when you add in soaring gas prices and the $2.50 it takes just to get a small bag of popcorn!

Movies in the Mail? Flying under the radar in this growing phenomenon is the increasing popularity of movie rentals that are delivered through the US Mail. Over the past few years, two leading services – NetFlix and BlockBuster – putlocker movies have steadily grown in terms of the numbers of users and the variety of movies they stock. In an increasingly time-crunched world, where people feel they have less and less free time, getting movies in the mail just makes a lot of sense. Here’s how it works.

First, you need Internet access. You simply surf to the or web sites and sign up for their services. Both offer nifty free trials, so there’s literally no reason not to give one or both a shot! Once you’ve registered for movie rentals by mail, you simply browse through their online libraries of available movies and choose those you’d like to receive. This builds a personalized queue that you can change anytime you wish. You can add movies, remove others, and even set the order in which you want to receive them. Both services offer different levels of membership, where you can keep more movies out by paying a bit more each month (after your free trial ends). The prices are very reasonable ($10-$50 per month for 1-8 movie rentals at any given time). Perhaps the best thing about renting movies this way (aside from not having to drive to the store and hope they have what you want) is that there are no late fees! You can keep movies out as long as you want. How convenient is that!?

Which Service is Best? Both NetFlix and BlockBuster offer comparable prices for their movie rental plans. However, whereas Netflix is purely an online service, BlockBuster has a large network of walk-in rental stores all over the country. This gives the edge to BlockBuster because of one additional free service they offer that Netflix cannot match: free in-store rentals. BlockBuster issues its mail service members printable coupons they can download from their web browsers for free movie rentals in retail locations every week. As long as you live near one of their stores, this is a significant bonus that makes their service a better deal overall than that offered by NetFlix. If the in-store coupons are not a factor for you, consider that NetFlix has a better movie-queuing process which might make it the better option for those who do not live alone.

With NetFlix, you have the option of keeping more than one movie queue. This is very convenient for families, so that family members can choose movies that perhaps they like but no one else cares about. No one is left out! (As of the time of this writing, BlockBuster appears to be working on adding this option, but it is currently not available.) Regardless of which service you choose, most users report high rates of satisfaction. The one negative is the limiting factor both services apply to members who get and return the maximum number of movie rentals in their plan extremely quickly. If, for example, you pay for three movies at a time and don’t keep any of them longer than a day or two consistently, you may find that the companies begin to extend the time it takes to get subsequent movies in the mail. This is done to keep shipping costs down. Even if this does happen to you, however, you’ll still get a lot more movies for a lot less money than you would by paying visits to a local video store.

Compiling a Unique Movie List For Friends

You’ve gotten quite the reputation among friends for being someone who knows their film lore. In fact, friends come to you in order to find out what movies to watch and which to ignore. But just because you adore movies doesn’t mean you want to spend all of your time telling others what they should see. Instead, you might want to create a movie list that your friends can review and from there, they can make decisions as to which movie tickets or DVDs to buy. And a movie list will take up less of your time than your friends might.

A List to Rule All Lists
When you enjoy movies, you have a number of qualifications that you have in mind when it comes to rating them for yourself. You might grade a movie based on how good it is or how bad it is, or you might rate movies based on the actors or the director. No matter your rating scale, a movie list needs to be indicative of your screening process. With movie database software, you can easily compile a list of all the movies you own – most of which are movies you love too. 123movies unblocked This list can be very long, to be sure, but this will give your friends plenty to consider when they are choosing their own entertainment.

Rating Your Movies
Of course, when you create this movie list, you might want to spend some time rating the movies you’ve include, maybe even making notes on why you like them. With movie database software, you have the ability to do this. By leaving just a few notes in the database setup, you will begin a sort of education for your friends. And since you can print out this list and its notes, you don’t have to explain everything to each friend when you recommend a movie. They can just read the list and make the decision whether or not to see what you’ve enjoyed.

More Time for Films
With a movie list system, you will be able to easily compile a list of movies you have seen, but this will also leave you time to add more movies to the list. Instead of recommending the latest Kate Winslet movie, you can head out to the theater and watch it yourself. You will not have to spend another moment explaining to your friend what movies you think they should see – you can go out and see the ones YOU want to see. Or you might want to bring friends along with you to the movies you are seeing or watching at home. This way, you can all discuss the film and begin your own sort of Siskel and Ebert sort of group.

Movies in 3D – A Great Movie Experience

If you are looking for a movie experience that will take you to the next level, then movies in 3D are for you. The 3D movie experience is a great innovation that movie producers have come up with, with the help of high technology. With 3D movies, you can almost feel as if you are a part of the movie itself, experiencing first-hand what the characters in the movie are experiencing.

Although the three-dimensional movie market is still at its early phase, there are already many movies created in this format. Movies in 3D have been well accepted by the public, movies123 making it a favorite among movie-lovers. It never fails to impress movie addicts, making people yearn for more of such makes.

However, three dimensional movies are not easy to produce. It takes several years to make and complete this type of movie. Intricate details and particulars about depth that make 3D movies realistic are not easy to create. But you can be assured that once they are released, they are of the best quality.

Probably the most popular among movies in 3D today is the award-winning Avatar, created by “Titanic” director James Cameron. The movie will indeed take you to a different world, with creatures of a different kind and people of a different race, making you feel as if you are really in another place and time.

The first ever movie created in new generation 3D is entitled “Fly Me to the Moon”, which is about three houseflies whose dream is to reach the moon. They went on the spaceship that brought Neil Armstrong to the moon for the very first time.

Another recently released movie in three dimension is Disney-Pixar’s “Up.” The story is about an old man and a young boy scout who went on a journey to fulfill the dream of the old man’s wife who had passed away. It is a nice movie full of funny antics, not to mention talking dogs.

Movies and TV As a Part of Our Lives

Once upon a time people lived vicariously through movies and then a small square box made it possible to do it in the home, too. When television became available in the 1930’s, very few people had one. There were very few television broadcasting stations and programming was very limited. In the 1950’s, television became the center piece of most family living rooms. It was a major way to get products into the public eye. Commercials became important in the 1950’s when an entire program would be sponsored by one company.

Saturday night at the movies became a ritual in the early 1960’s. Full length movie features were shown with commercial breaks. For the first time, the family could watch a movie together in the comfort of their own home. Today there are channels that are devoted to running movies 24/7. There are also channels that offer first run movies for a small payment after the movie has its run in the theater. movies123 With the advent of large screen televisions and surround sound, a family can sit down with a bowl of microwave popcorn and a favorite drink and watch the latest movie released on DVD.

Being able to watch a full length movie in the comfort of your own home is great. There is no need to get a babysitter because even the youngest child can be present. Dinner and a movie can be as simple as delivery pizza in several choices to suit the entire family. Pause the movie for bathroom breaks. Finish the movie the next night. You are in charge of the schedule.

Whoever told the corporate movie executives that increasing movie ticket prices so that it is necessary for a family of four to take out a personal loan in order to take in a movie; he or she was terribly wrong. It should not cost over thirty-five dollars just for a movie and refreshments.

3D movies are new again. They were very popular back in the 1950’s and 60’s. Everyone wore those tacky little cardboard glasses and watched the screen as the characters seemed to pop out at the audience. The movies were totally out of focus if you did not use the glasses and people often had headaches when watching the movie with the glasses on. Today the 3D movie has been made popular again by the advent of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.

These two new 3D movies were great on screen where things seemed to just jump out at you and you seemed to find yourself in the movie. When the movie was released on DVD, it was easy to watch in the comfort of the home. No tacky glasses were needed because the movie was in perfect viewing order in a non 3D format. Being able to enjoy either or both of these blockbuster movies in the comfort of your own home is great. Lower the lights, get the popcorn and other snacks and drinks ready and turn on the movie.

Movie Scheduling: Method To The Madness

So how do certain movies end up on certain weekends? There is an art and a science to the scheduling of approximately 150 wide-releases each year. This is the first in an occasional look at the scheduling of movies — part background, part history, part explanation, and a dose of skepticism and critique.

This weekend is a perfect example of movie scheduling in North America. Three movies open on April 1 from three different studios representing three different genres and audience segments. Universal’s Hop (a comedy with a mix of animation and live action) goes after the kid and family audience, while adults are targeted by Summit’s sci-fi thriller Source Code and horror fans are the bulls-eye for newcomer FilmDistrict’s Insidious.

Launching a wide-release movie is an expensive proposition, usually around $50 million in marketing costs. 123movies With each new release, studio prestige is on the line, careers are at stake in front of and behind the camera, and most of all, studio marketing and distribution departments need to maximize the return on investment of a film that cost $50-150 million to produce (in most cases but sometime more, sometimes less). With all that in mind, the same studio does not release two movies against each other the same weekend, and even more important, each studio assiduously avoids releasing one genre against a similar genre from another studio.

It’s really quite simple at its core. Why launch a big action movie the same weekend as another studio’s big action movie? The same goes for animation, serious dramas, horror, or any genre one can name. Why, a studio executive would ask, would we be dumb enough to split the audience of a particular genre if we don’t have to? The executive might continue, it’s not like we are as dumb as the TV guys who routinely schedule similar shows against each other. Touché, Mr. Movie Executive. We’ll leave that for another column.

When three different genres open against each other, the industry maximizes the chance that each one could succeed and avoids the likelihood of mutually assured destruction.

So how did Hop end up on April 1? First, its theme naturally places it near Easter. Since Easter is late this year, that puts the movie somewhere in April. Next, DreamWorks has had great success launching family films this time of year (How to Train Your Dragon opened 3.26.2010 with $44 million and Monsters vs Aliens opened 3.27.2009 with $59 million), but that studio did not repeat this strategy, providing an opening for Universal. Next, this weekend two years ago was extremely lucky for Universal, which shocked everyone by opening Fast & Furious with $71 million on 4.3.2009. Don’t underestimate the power of precedent and patterns. And then there’s the upcoming Fox release of the animated Rio, as Mitch Salem notes in his Hop review.
